Historical Development

The Mililani Vision

Mililani began in 1958, when Castle & Cooke started planning a master-planned community on its Central O‘ahu pineapple fields. The original Mililani Town opened west of the H-2 in 1968. As Mililani grew, pineapple farming was phased out over 20 years, opening land on the mauka (mountain) side of the freeway for the community’s next phase.

A New Phase East of H-2 (1990s)

Development of Mililani Mauka began around 1990, and the first homeowners moved in in 1992. The new phase carried forward Mililani’s master-planned approach, with landscaped parkways, parks, schools, and recreation centers planned alongside the homes.

Recreation Center 7 (2007)

Mililani Mauka is home to Recreation Center 7, at Meheula Parkway and Lehiwa Street. It broke ground in April 2003 and was the last recreation center planned by the Mililani Town Association. It features a swimming pool, wading pool, and a multipurpose “semi gym” for half-court basketball and full-court volleyball.

Mililani Completed (2008)

In 2008, forty years after Mililani’s dedication, Castle & Cooke marked the completion of Hawai‘i’s first master-planned community, with all 16,000 planned homes built across Mililani Town and Mililani Mauka.

Koa Ridge Next Door

Castle & Cooke’s newest Central O‘ahu community, Koa Ridge, broke ground on November 2, 2017, with about 3,500 homes planned. Its first homeowners moved in in November 2020.
